DMCL Tracing level 9

A quick tip for those still on Documentum 5.3: For years people (myself included) have recommended you begin performance tuning documentum by taking a level 10 dmcl trace. In d5.3 EMC added a load of extraneous tracing that is not particularly relevant to performance tuning that just bloats out the trace file. If you enable the trace at level 9 you get the performance data without the bloat.

  1. For extra fun, I’ve seen level 10 break a process where level 9 did not.

  2. Nice and one more good reason not to use level 10 unless you really want to see all the gubbins that gets passed in RPCs
